Burnout: What I have learned over the past six months

Burnout

Last fall I quit abandoning myself.

Living through a pandemic was already so exhausting. Then moving finally took me out completely. No longer was I hanging by a thread. The thread broke and I quit. I just couldn't keep going any longer at the same pace and not abandon myself again. So I stopped doing all the things.

Nobody talks about how long it will take to recover from burnout. Hint - it takes a while!! Which completely goes against the immediate nature of our culture. I mean, who has time to recover from burnout anyways?!

But, I am still here, staying close to myself and healing. Here's what I have learned over the past six months...

.... burnout is supported, even prompted, by our culture

.... grinding it out every day in a pandemic is enough to get you to full burnout

.... it's tempting to invalidate or compare away your feelings of burnout

.... you will look the same on the outside yet on the inside you may feel completely empty, exhausted and unmotivated

.... only you can take responsibility for healing your burnout

.... be patient, you will feel better with time

.... to feel better, you will need to drop some balls

.... people may feel upset by the boundaries you set to support your healing. That's okay, peoples feelings about you aren't your business anyways

.... healing from burnout will greatly support your creativity, focus, insight and energy

.... rest is one of the most powerful and rebellious acts in a culture of scarcity and toxic productivity

Go all in and rest big!
